God has rules for us, and He commands us to keep His rules. God calls these commandments. They are not suggestions, but commands.
What is the difference between suggestions and commands? When we hear a suggestion, we can freely decide whether we act accordingly or not. If the suggestion was good and we followed it, life will reward us. If we did not follow it, life will punish us or hold back the reward.
On the other hand, when we hear a command, and we don’t obey, it will be not the life that will punish us but the commander. If we obey, we can expect some reward in time.
God commands everybody everywhere to repent. “And the times of this ignorance God overlooked; but now commands all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). And He will make sure that we will be rewarded or punished according to our obedience. We may not like to hear this, but God made this clear in the Bible.
